Before I leave office I want to thank you, the Schleper family and Pilot Contracting. Our relationship goes back almost as long as I served as prioress, first with your father, then with you. I leave office with many happy memories and the satisfaction of seeing work well done on a daily basis.
I consider it a blessing that, at the time of my election twelve years ago, I had no idea how much building and renovation our community would decide to do. In my first life I taught English and religion. Today I am as interested in reading blueprints as I am in good novels and Scripture! I enjoyed every aspect of each project and always looked forward to our meetings. Your sensitivity to our monastic life and our building needs has been a gift to the whole community.
I am especially grateful to you for the enormous amount of work you have already done for the Academy. I admire your ability to be patient with the process. Working with the Academy board on such a big project has been a learning experience for all of us. As I indicated last evening, this is the first time in a long while that the Academy has ventured into such a future-oriented project. We focused on current needs for such a long time. It is a blessing to plan for the future. The Academy is our oldest ministry. It is consoling to know that preparation for the next century is underway.
The community remembers our benefactors each day at evening prayer.
